FOR THE LOVE OF FASHION * 1 *

2011/10/14

When you ask Photographers why they prefer Canon or a Nikon body, most will say that both cameras produce superb image quality, but they stuck with one or the other simply because they already had the lenses for it and didn’t want to reinvest in all the expensive glass to fit the new camera. If you ask me why I use 5D Mark II – its even simpler: IT TAKES VIDEO!!!

-”But you are a Photographer, not a Videographer, right?!”

-”Wright and wrong.”

I am an Artist, and as an Artist you really don’t want to be constrained by anything that can stifle your creative process. So forget the niche and do what you love! On the practical side, If you talk to the professional Fashion Photographers and Modeling agencies what you’ll find is that not only is it a well accepted medium in the industry but a very sought after skill. So you either embrace it or become pretty much obsolete in the world of online digital media. Ok, enough of the shop talk, here’s a short test video we recently produced :

What a blast! The clothes and Models were just amazing. We picked up most things from the Heart Boutique conveniently located on 19th and Capitol in Downtown Sacramento. Alyssa totally rocked the denim shorts and I don’t think anyone can look better in hats than Vanessa did during our shoot. We were lucky to have had a beautiful summer day after the heavy rain during a week. Jasmine Cardinas did a gorgeous job on make-up and we were happy to stay dry and not have it all washed off :) .

So there it is – out very first video!  Tell us what you think and leave a comment. Oh, and here’s a link to the Constant Project and the Stills.

I really like it!!! You did a very good job on it!!! Way to go Darya! I am a fan of your art!!!!
not criticizing in any way(don’t think anything), but… i personally don’t understand the mood of this video. It’s kinda all over the place. For me make up on girls, style of clothes and all the details on the background were  matching and on the same page. But girls laughter, smiling and kinda childish moves were not fitting in right in this video. I guess I would have wanted it to be more deep, serious and darkly glamorous. just my personal opinion.

Tanya, appreciate you input and glad you liked it :) . There are quite a few things that could be improved on this video actually.. Doing photography for a while and trying new things all the time, I’ve learned to accept that its ok not to be 100% satisfied with every project. Its good – helps me grow as an artist. I understand what you mean by the mood, and there is probably a multitude of ways it could have been shot. I personally don’t feel that smiles take away from it, but that’s a matter of opinion.
